  • 1GHz or faster G4, G5 or Intel Core processor(s)

In a Macintosh server environment, Apache 1.3 (or Apache 2.2 on Mac OS X 10.5.x) must be installed. This should have been automatically installed by default with the operating system.
  1. Double-click to launch the installer.
  2. Navigate through the beginning steps of the installer. Accept the end-user license and choose an install location. To function properly, Portfolio NetPublish must be installed in the default location.
  3. Click Quit.
  4. After installing NetPublish server, if you have a firewall through which you want the server to communicate, make sure to open the port you designated in the NetPublish installer.
Files are installed to the directory chosen during installation. The default install location is:
   <system Applications folder>/Extensis/Portfolio NetPublish.

The following files are installed in addition to those found in the Portfolio application folder.
/Library/StartupItems/Portfolio NetPublish 8/...

Previous Versions — Portfolio NetPublish can be installed directly on top of previous versions of Portfolio NetPublish.

What's new in Portfolio NetPublish 8.5.2

Preview image optimization

Portfolio NetPublish is now able to take advantage of preview image optimization implemented in  Portfolio Client and Portfolio Server. Preview image files are now stored in a nested folder hierarchy, and Portfolio NetPublish can now access the nested files. Thousands of preview images are no longer stored in a single directory.  When updating the Portfolio Server and Portfolio Clients, be sure to also upgrade Portfolio NetPublish to version 8.5.2 or greater.

What's new in Portfolio NetPublish 8.5.1

Leopard and Apache 2.2 Compatibility

Portfolio NetPublish is now compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and will install under Apache 2.2 on this version of the Mac OS X operating system.

Improvements to Assets Log

Additional data has been added to the Assets log, allowing more information to be gathered about items downloaded from NetPublish sites.

What's new in Portfolio NetPublish 8.5

Three new features were introduced in this version of NetPublish. They include a download log that allows you to know which items are being downloaded by site users, new download security settings, as well as the ability to watermark items contained in a NetPublish site. Each of these features is implemented “under the hood” and is not exposed in any graphical user interface.

Asset Download Log

The download log tracks a bounty of information about which assets are being downloaded from your NetPublish site. This release adds a number of helpful information fields to this log, and can be used to assist in determining who is accessing files, as well as which files are most frequently downloaded and so forth.

Watermarking

When you watermark an image, you place a semi-visible mark on it, thus discouraging any unauthorized use. Watermarking is supported for all image file types that can be dynamically scaled by NetPublish, including JPEG, GIF, PNG and BMP.

Asset Download Protection

The asset download protection features allow you to control how NetPublish site users are able to access and download files.

9830 Downloading files that are named with file characters that aren't supported by the browser will have their file names changed by the browser upon download. For example, downloading a file with a Japanese file name in a standard Western ANSI encoded browser will result in the file name being changed unexpectedly. This will not occur if both Client and Server machines are using the same encoding.
