Instead it's suggested that you copy the installation application from an AFP-mounted network volume, which does not cause this behavior post install. (C) SERIALIZATION AND REGISTRATION ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is important to register your copy of Portfolio so we can provide you with the best possible service. Registered users of Portfolio are eligible for technical support, information regarding new versions and products, discounts and special offers on new products. Your serial number is located in one of three locations: on the Portfolio CD sleeve, on the product packaging, or was sent to you via email if you purchased through our website. Enter that number to personalize your copy of Portfolio. If you choose not to personalize your copy, Portfolio runs in a demonstration mode that allows you to use the product for 30 days. You can purchase additional serial numbers from Extensis Customer Service. NetPublish includes built-in image search, preview and download capabilities. The NetPublish client application also provides Portfolio 7's Create Webpages feature. Please review the "Portfolio 7 NetPublish Read Me" file for more information about the Create Webpages feature in Portfolio 7, the NetPublish Assistant, and the NetPublish Server. (F) COMPATIBILITY AND TECHNICAL NOTES ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Version 6 catalogs can be used with Portfolio 7, after they have been converted. To convert, simply open the catalog in version 7. We strongly recommend you create a backup of your catalog before converting it. Version 6 Saved Views and HTML templates are not supported in version 7. The Saved Views feature has been expanded to offer additional layout and display controls. Static and dynamic webpage generation is now handled by a new Extensis product, NetPublish, which has a new template system that offers greatly expanded functionality for making webpages and websites. Catalogs created in version 6 with an Index node size set to less than 3K in the Preferences cannot be converted to version 7 before their block size is converted. Please see the Extensis Technical Support Knowledge Base (available on the Extensis website) for information on this topic. If you have been using Portfolio version 6 in OS X, you will need to associate Portfolio's catalog file type with version 7 in order to double-click a catalog file on disk to launch Portfolio 7. To do this, Control-click on a catalog file, choose Get Info, choose Portfolio 7 from the Open With pop-up menu, then click the Change All button. Zip or JPEG compressed TIF files are not supported in this version of Portfolio. They do not thumbnail, and they are not supported in the Batch Convert Images feature. TIFFs with spot channels do not convert properly in the Batch Convert Images feature. Portfolio does not offer thumbnails or previews for images saved in the Photoshop PSB image format (large document format). These files can be saved as a TIF for use in Portfolio. Photoshop files which contain layers will preview correctly in Portfolio if the option to Maximize File Compatibility is turned on in Photoshop. If Photoshop files are saved with this option turned off, they will not preview properly. Long catalog names may be truncated when served from Portfolio Server. You cannot open a catalog in Portfolio Express if the same catalog is already open in the Portfolio application in Administration mode. You must first change your Access Level to Publisher (or lower) to be able to open the catalog in Portfolio Express at the same time. Microsoft PowerPoint is required to be installed to generate thumbnails for PowerPoint files. You cannot preview Raw images in catalogs using Portfolio Browser if you are on a Macintosh system that does not have a full install of the Portfolio Application. The Portfolio installer places files necessary to preview Raw files in the /Library/Application Support/Extensis/Portfolio folder. In order to work around this limitation, you can make a copy of the “Extensis” folder in Application Support and place it in the same location on the machine that doesn’t have Portfolio installed in order to get RAW files to preview in the browser. Portfolio Mac is not fully internationalized. In some dialogs, you can only enter data for numeric and date fields in standard US decimal and date formats. Entering data in the non-US regional setting format can either fail to enter, or cause data to be stored incorrectly in the database, compromising your ability to search on that data. We recommend that users set their regional date settings in the Mac OS to display 4-digit year (system preferences control panel>international>formats, then customize the short date to “show century”). This will ensure dates are entered into the database correctly. Custom field predefined lists entered with “show century” disabled in the OS (2-digit year) may have the incorrect century entered into the database. (i.e. 1967 will be stored in the database as 2067) If you experience problems importing text files into portfolio, either import fails or is incomplete, save your text file in UTF-8 or UTF-16 format with your text editor and then import again. You may experience this while importing text files that have a mixture of low and high ASCII characters. If you are experiencing problems extracting metadata containing non-roman characters, change your extract metadata mappings so that you extract XMP data only (if it exists) as the XMP standard is fully Unicode compatible. Portfolio relies on QuickTime to preview certain file types. QuickTime has certain limitations when the filename and/or path to the file include Japanese or high ASCII characters. This limitation will cause portfolio to fail to produce thumbnails and/or previews for these cataloged files. If you experience this issue, you should use all lower ASCII characters in your filename and path. If you have done a custom install without Netpublish and you now wish to install Netpublish, you will need to delete the Portfolio application before reinstalling in order for the Netpublish component to be installed correctly. Portfolio is unable to open PixelSafe (.PFZ) files with Japanese user names if they are created in Windows or Macintosh SmartScale. English passwords will work correctly between the products. Portfolio 7.0.6 client will not connect to pre-7.0.6 Portfolio Server. If you are using Portfolio in a client/server environment you must upgrade the Server to 7.0.6 first, and then upgrade the clients. Apple scripting: The "serve catalog" command is not functioning in this release. Apple scripting: Portfolio can unexpectedly exit when opening a password-protected catalog via Apple scripting. To workaround this, remove the password from the catalog. ------- © 2005 Extensis, a division of Celartem, Inc. This document and the software described in it are copyrighted with all rights reserved.
