WELCOME TO EXTENSIS PORTWEB 6 PortWeb 6, a web server plug-in, is an easy-to-use add-on to the Portfolio 6 system which enables web browser-based users to browse Portfolio catalogs. PortWeb establishes a connection between a web server application, a Portfolio Server, a SQL Service, or a Portfolio catalog on disk to provide a truly dynamic link between web-based users and Portfolio catalogs, so they can quickly search up-to-date Portfolio information. _______________________________________________________________ Contents System Requirements How to Install Technical Support Compatibility and Technical Notes Manual Addenda Version 6.0.1 Info _______________________________________________________________ System Requirements Macintosh Apple Power Macintosh Mac OS 8.6 through 9.2 Supported Web Servers: - StarNine WebStar 4.x - StarNine WebStar 3.0 - AppleShare IP 6.x Web Server Windows Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP Pentium Processor - 200 MHz or faster recommended Supported Web Servers - MS Internet Information Server (IIS) - MS Personal Web Server (95/98) - MS Peer Web Services (NT) (Note: For best results, make sure you are running the latest versions of these servers.) Windows NT, 98, 2000 Place the PortWeb.dll file into the IIS Scripts folder: C:\Inetpub\Scripts\PortWeb.dll Windows XP After you have installed IIS and PortWeb, Portweb will not work until the "Scripts" folder is a Virtual Directory. In Windows 2000, this is set up automatically. In order for the "Scripts" folder to be a Virtual Directory, you need to follow these steps to set it up. 1) Go into the Control Panel and click on "Performance and Maintenance" 2) Click on "Administrative Tools" 3) Double-click "Internet Information Services" 4) In the IIS window, you will see a left window pane with a directory structure of the name of your computer. 5) Expand the hierarchy, so "Default Web Site" is expanded. Notice the Scripts folder does not appear. This folder needs to be listed in this location for the PortWeb plugin to work correctly. 6) Select "Default Web Site" then click on Action>New>Virtual Directory... from the toolbar 7) The Virtual Directory Creation Wizard will now appear. Click Next. 8) For the Alias, type "Scripts" without the quotation marks and click Next 9) Now you need to browse for the "Scripts" directory. It is normally located in C:\Inetpub\Scripts After you have found this location, click Next. 10) In the Access Permissions dialog, the only one that you want to be checked is "Execute (such as ISAPI applications or CGI)," click Next 11) Click Finish. 12) The "Scripts" folder now shows in the "Default Web Site" hierarchy. You're now ready to use PortWeb. Additional support and sample files are available on the Extensis CD as well as from the Extensis.com web site. _______________________________________________________________ Technical Support To reach us for technical support or general questions please use one of the following methods: Phone: 503-274-7030 Web: http://www.extensis.com/support Our website includes a detailed, up-to-date FAQ/troubleshooting page for Portfolio. Turn off Verbose Logging In WebSTAR There is a known bug in WebStar (version 3.0 and up) where turning on Verbose Logging causes Post arguments (i.e. form data) to be lost! With Verbose Logging on, a crash will occur when using adminshow, and you will be unable to display results without crashing the application. _______________________________________________________________ Manual Addenda Previewing PortWeb Templates in Portfolio The Preview feature in the Create Web Pages dialog will not preview a template that contains the new PortWeb %preview% or %original% macros unless they are wrapped with an additional <--Port4--> tag. An example: <--Port4-%original%--> Link to Original <--/Port4-%original%--> AppleShare IP Memory Allocation To increase the plug-in memory under AppleShare IP 6.3, the instructions are slightly different than stated in the manual: 1) Open the Mac OS Server Admin application and connect to your server. 2) Choose Configure Web Server from the Web Server menu. 3) Switch to the Plug-Ins tab. 4) Increase the maximum plug-in memory usage by 3000K. 5) Restart the web server. _______________________________________________________________ Version 6.0.1 Info Version 6.0.1 fixes a bug in the Collection feature where cookies on multiple machines were created with the same PortWeb ID – not allowing users to have different Collections. _______________________________________________________________ ©2002 Extensis, Inc.
