If the latest version/service pack of your OS isn't listed, don't fret. Portfolio should work OK. However, vendors and users never know until Microsoft or Apple release a version/SP what is 'in' the release. For instance, the release OS 10.3 broke some menus in Portfolio v6.1.So do allow a little time for testing. If you're running the latest OS, drop a line to Extensis - making clear your OS version. At worst you may hear some features don't work - but most likely an later update will fix them.
Technical Requirements for running elements of Portfolio v8 and NetPublish v8 are shown below. For more detailed information see the readme files for the appropriate version. The data below is based on published data from Extensis. Mac users with Intel chips should use v8.1.1+. New OS releases after v8.5 launch such as Mac OS 10.5 are likely to result in updates being issued to some or all modules.
Portfolio 8.5 is not backward compatible with previous versions, and all clients and app servers must be running the same major/minor version (i.e. v8.5.x). Older catalogues, e.g. v8.1.1, will need to be upgraded to v8.5 on first use. This is not a difficult procedure but if you think you may want to revert to the older version, take a backup as there is no rollback. A client can usually open an unserved version+1 FDB but this should only be tried in a crisis, e.g. retrieving data after an unintended update; it should not be attempted for production work and is certainly not a supported configuration.

Mac OS X v10.4.4 or higher 1GHz or faster G4, G5 or Intel Core processor(s) 500MB of available hard disk space (additional space may be required for database and asset storage) 256MB RAM (512MB recommended) XGA (1024 x 768) or higher display at millions of colors CD-ROM (for installation) unless using a downloaded installer) QuickTime 7 or higher Network interface for Server (only for multi-user) an/or NetPublish connection Web browser with Macromedia Flash 7 or higher plug-in installed (for HTML Help) Adobe Reader 5 or higher Microsoft Office X (10.1.9 only) for text indexing and thumbnailing of Office file types. |
Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2 or Vista 1GHz or faster processor 500MB of available hard disk space (additional space may be required for database and asset storage) 256MB RAM (512MB recommended) XGA (1024 x 768) or higher display at millions of colors CD-ROM (for installation) unless using a downloaded installer) QuickTime 6.5 or higher Network interface for Server (only for multi-user) an/or NetPublish connection Web browser with Macromedia Flash 7 or higher plug-in installed (for HTML Help) Adobe Reader 5 or higher Microsoft Office 2003 SP2 or higher for text indexing and thumbnailing of Office file types. Systems that are not used to catalog Office files can still view and search Office files even if Office is not installed. |
Notes: 1. New to v8.5 there are now separate serial codes for Mac and Windows clients (owing to extra sub-licensed components in the Windows clients). Otherwise client serial codes function as previously 2. Only Client Connect client versions, but not Stand Alone (different licence type) can access and use Portfolio Server. There is a single client installer per OS. The type of serial code applied dictates Client Connect vs. Stand Alone functionality. |

Network interface with a 10 megabit or faster for server connection Appropriate storage, back-up, power management and network bandwidth |
|
Notes: 1. If you have very large database that is being maintained through AutoSync folders, the performance of Portfolio Server will be positively affected by faster processors and more memory. 2. Additional disk space is required to store catalogue files. By default, these files are stored inside the application's folder, though they may be stored elsewhere by means of aliases/shortcuts (see Server section of the FAQ). 3. For production work, ideally Server OSs should be used. However, for demo/light proof of concept work the app will run on desktop OSs: OS 10.4.4+, Windows 2000(SP4), Windows XP(SP2). |

MySQL up to 4.1.21 or 5.0.37 MyODBC 3.51.14 -Use newer or alternate ODBC drivers at your own risk. (If installing on Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) Server, a custom MyODBC driver is required. Please visit www.extensis.com to download this driver.) |
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 SP2 with SQL Server ODBC driver v2005-9.00.1399.06, Microsoft SQL Server 2000 SP4 with SQL Server ODBC driver v2000-8.00.2039 (Use newer ODBC drivers at your own risk.) Oracle 10gR2 with Oracle ODBC driver v10.02.00.01 MySQL 4.1.21 or 5.0.37 with MyODBC Connector 3.51.12 Java Runtime Environment (JRE) - only for use of SQL Database Admin Tool |
|
Notes: 1. Since v7.0, there is a single installer for Portfolio Server & SQL Connect. SQL Connect is enabled via the purchase of a separate serial code. 2. For more metrics on hardware spec vs. usage see page 14 of the version 8 [sic] Server User Guide and also page 13 of the v8.5 manual update. PDF format versions of these manuals are installed by Portfolio Server in its documentation folder. 3. It's important to note that the SQL Server (whatever vendor type) need not be installed on the same server as Portfolio Server. SQLConnect manages the data connection between Portfolio Server and the SQL server whether local or elsewhere on the LAN; a WAN connection between the two is not advised unless on a very fast private connection. 4. Besides these Portfolio requirements, you also need to consider the SQL vendor's licensing requirements for CALs, CPU licences, etc., as existing licensing may need to be extended to allow for SQL-based Portfolio use. If uncertain as to the additional requirements you should contact Extensis directly and request guidance. 5. The Java-based Database Admin Tool described in the manual is only installed by the Window Portfolio Server. For catalogue updating, Mac users should use the "Portfolio SQL Upgrade Tool.app" in the Portfolio server folder. 6. Newer database engines and ODBC drivers may function properly, but have not been verified. Use alternate or newer database engines and ODBC drivers at your own risk. |

|
Note:
1. Additional disk space is required to store sites created with NetPublish and cache files. These content files are stored inside the application's folder and not in the \my documents\ or ~/user/ space. 2. NP v8.5 can publish sites from v7.04/7.06, and v8.0/8.1.1 clients. Ideally, on upgrading to v8.5, sites should be republished from v8.5 clients. There should be no problems with vendor supplied templates requiring v7.x -> v8.x adjustments. 3. For production work, ideally Server OSs should be used. However, for demo/light proof of concept work the app will run on desktop OSs: OS 10.4.4+, Windows 2000(SP4), Windows XP(SP2). |

You should regard QuickTime (you only need the free version) as part of the basic requirement as Portfolio uses a number of its filters. Mac users should have QT installed by default, Windows users will need to download and install it. Do a full or custom install and not the basic install to ensure that modules like the 'still imaging' are available to Portfolio. Ideally, on a new PC install QT before Portfolio; otherwise, at minimum, close and re-open the Portfolio client for QT's filters to be available.
Technical Requirements for running elements of Portfolio, Portfolio Server and NetPublish v8 are shown below. For more detailed information see the readme files for the appropriate version. The data below is based on published data from Extensis. Mac users with Intel chips should use v8.1.1+ requiring OS 10.4.4+. The last released versions of version '8.0' are: Mac v8.1.1 all componenets, Windows v8.1.1 client all others v8.1.0.

Technical Requirements for running elements of Portfolio v6 are shown below. For more detailed information see the readme files for the appropriate version.
The data below is based on published data from Extensis. Users should assume that more recent versions of Windows OS are compatible. With Mac, there is unlikely to be further development of the 'classic' environment. Due to issues with the still emergent OS-X, the v6.1 client requires Jaguar (10.2.x) or later. The OS-X native Server requirements are less clear but are best assumed as the same as for the client.
